Russell Maltz

Overview

Maltz creates minimal, site-specific installations and paintings that directly intervene in architectural and public spaces. By coating industrial materials—like concrete blocks, PVC piping, and plywood—in vibrant fluorescent paint, he temporarily stages these elements as sculpture before they are cycled back into functional construction systems, playfully blurring the line between utility and fine art.

He has exhibited widely at institutions including Minus Space, Brooklyn, NY; Stadtgalerie Saarbrucken, Germany; Museo de los Pintores Oaxaqueños, Mexico; and P.S.1, Queens, NY. His work is held in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, NY; Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, CT; Harvard Art Museums, Cambridge, MA; and the Museum für Konkrete Kunst, Ingolstadt, Germany.
