El Corredor (El Corr-Eh-Dorr)
Means the corridor.
This painting captures a rare celestial event. In the distance the sun approaches the horizon and splits into three; what is known as a sundog. This is the kind of event the Mexica would have searched for along their path towards Tenochtitlan.
The nopales in the foreground are symbols of encouragement. They remind us of the prophecy of Huitzilopochtli, moving us forward and through the space.
In a world where borders are increasingly hostile and militarized, this is a depiction of a borderland in a moment of wonder. The nopales are intense and guarded, but the space behind them is expansive and inviting.
