“Nobody’s Star is about intersections—between the personal and the universal, the fleeting and the eternal. In these shared moments, I hope the work becomes a space where viewers can reflect on their own narratives, finding sparks of connection in the quiet glow of art.”

- Young Do Jeong

CHART is pleased to present Nobody’s Star, a solo exhibition by South Korean artist Young Do Jeong. Featuring ten new paintings, this marks Jeong’s first solo exhibition with CHART and his debut show in New York City. The opening reception will be held on Friday, January 10, from 6–8 p.m., and the exhibition will remain on view through February 15, 2025.

Jeong’s creative process unfolds as a visual narrative, beginning with spontaneous doodles that gradually evolve into a cohesive world. Every mark—whether painted, stained, or dripped—serves as a foundational element in this developing space. Fragmented images swirl and shift with kaleidoscopic energy, exploring the ambiguity of meaning. Rather than using traditional paint tubes, Jeong employs calligraphy brushes dipped in small cups of paint, allowing the images to grow organically. Through layering, he emphasizes the natural progression of his work, merging deliberate actions with unexpected discoveries. Various elements—human and animal shapes, abstract or symbolic forms, geometric color fields—appear only to dissolve and vanish in the next moment.

Jeong blends personal experience with shared spaces, where stories linger without dominating. While drawn to storytelling, these paintings resist conventional narratives, inviting viewers into a space where abstraction and representation blur. This encourages reflection on the threshold where intention meets unpredictability.
